1. What's the maximum coil weight it needs to handle?

2. Does it need the full 0–90° rotation range?

3. Hydraulic or mechanical drive?
A hydraulic coil tilter uses hydraulic cylinders for smooth, precisely controllable rotation across the full range — the better choice when the tilt needs to stop and hold partway, or when coil surface protection matters. A mechanical coil tilter uses mechanical actuation instead, with fewer hydraulic components to maintain, at some cost to fine control. 4. Manual or automated control?
Coil tilters are available with manual or automated control. Automated control makes sense where the tilter is integrated into a slitting line or automated handling sequence; manual control may be sufficient for a standalone storage or end-processing station.
5. How much floor space does it actually need?
Capacity and rotation range are the obvious numbers, but floor space is often the detail that decides fit. A low-profile design that keeps the coil close to the ground during rotation matters more in a tight slitting-line layout than in an open yard. Where floor space simply is not available, an aerial coil tilter mounted to the crane is the alternative — when overhead tilting makes sense. Get the tilter's footprint and clearance envelope, not just its capacity rating.
6. What safety interlocks does it have?
An uncontrolled tilt risks the coil shifting inside its cradle mid-rotation and abrupt stops that stress both the coil and the tilter's frame. Ask specifically about interlocks that prevent operation outside the intended sequence — this protects the coil edge and the operator standing nearby, not just the headline tonnage rating.
7. Is it built for heavy-duty continuous use?
